The diversity of the economic climate in Conroe was prominently exhibited at the 5th annual Conroe Job Fair when nearly 500 registered job seekers, including hundreds in the first couple hours, traveled to Conroe looking to advance their careers. These job seekers were able to visit with more than 40 businesses and organizations looking to fill various positions.
The more than 40 participating companies and organizations from energy, manufacturing, healthcare, finance, hospitality, education, and law enforcement, among others, was an increase from 2016, showing that Conroe businesses have plans to grow in 2017.
“It was exciting and encouraging having a larger collection of businesses this year. It is a snapshot as to what we could expect during 2017,” said Jennifer Matthews, Associate Director of the GCEDC. “Today was proof that there are jobs available in Conroe’s vibrant and diverse economic climate. Many who attended the job fair today found opportunities for a rewarding new career.”
In addition to exploring new career paths, job seekers were able to register for one of five, $1,000 scholarships to attend Lone Star College-Conroe Center (LSC-Conroe Center). Lone Star College has been critical in building a talented, robust workforce in the Conroe area. The scholarships can be used to discover a new skill set or to grow an existing skill at the college. Also, job seekers were able to prepare for job interviews through resume writing and interview skills workshops leading up to the job fair.
“The Conroe business community has an invaluable partnership with Lone Star College-Conroe Center,” added Matthews. “LSC-Conroe Center is not only providing highly skilled workers to local businesses, but they are giving Conroe citizens a chance to advance their careers. The scholarships garnered by the winners at the job fair will help in both ways.”
The 2017 job fair demonstrated that growth is expected to continue in Conroe. Announced expansions and new projects are coming in 2017, and bringing jobs. The Greater Conroe Economic Development Council (GCEDC), in collaboration with the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber, Workforce Solutions and LSC-Conroe Center, hosted the job fair at The Lone Star Convention and Expo Center. These organizations are collaborating to meet that growth through training and job fairs to attract qualified employees.
Conroe is committed to business and to providing the best workforce to those businesses. It is as good a time as ever to look north for opportunities!
